SPRINGFIELD SENIOR CENTER FLAG
The Design and MeaningThe design is five (5) golden hearts forming a circle, each touching the other. It creates a flower in full bloom with a star at its center. The hearts are the members, the touching circle indicates their love, concern, and cooperation with each other and the star is for the first class, stella group the organization is. The jagged, saw-toothed line on the flag blends the vibrant organization into what can be termed as the members' "golden years." This portion being at the free end of the flag signifies the freedom that comes with this time of life. The ColorsThe colors are both vibrant and vivid - a bright yellow and a brilliant red. They purposely have been confined to two (2). This results in a much greater visual impact. The yellow stands for caring and concern, wisdom, happiness, and the members' "golden years." The red indicates faithfulness, dogged New England determination, perseverance, and the revelry and fun obtained at the "Center." Flag SizeBecause we all lovingly think of Springfield as different, the town flag was different in size than the norm we are used to. It is twice as long as it is high. For this reason, the Center's flag has been kept to these same proportions. The Senior Center flag design, created by David Shuffleburg of Springfield, VT., was submitted to the Senior Center for approval on September 26, 2001 and was accepted by unanimous vote. The flag is registered with The Flag Research Center in Winchester, MA. |
