ACTIVITIES and PROGRAMS



Activities Committee

The Activities Committee is composed of four members and the director. The members are elected for two-year terms, eligible for re-election after one year absence from committee. This committee plans the special programs on Wednesday afternoons at 1 p.m.

Pool and Ping Pong

The members of the Senior Center can use the pool and ping pong room in the Parks and Recreation side of the community center in the mornings. We can use it in the afternoon but it is open for the youth in the area mostly.

Ceramics

We have a very active Ceramics Department that meets on Mondays and Tuesdays starting in September and going through June. No classes July and August. The cost of the class is $2.75 per day. The ceramics program is intended as a hobby activity rather than a professional group although a large share of the finished products are of professional quality. We provide basic instruction for beginners and individual assistance for everyone in the ceramics group. The classes run from 9 to 12 noon. For more information you can contact the Center.

Shuffleboard

We have tournaments on Monday mornings, Monday afternoons and Thursday afternoons. Four to five teams for each tournament. Our fall tournament begins in September followed by a winter tournament and spring tournament. In May the winners of the tournaments will compete in the Championship tournament! We hold a banquet after the championship to announce the winners and hand out awards.

Walking in the Gym

We have open gym walking from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday and on Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Come walk where there is no ice, rain, snow - just friends to meet!

Living Strong Exercises

This exercise group uses both leg and hand weights which we supply if needed. We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. No class fee just a basket for donation of $1 per class that we use to hold wonderful parties twice a year to celebrate our health and friendships. You do need a signed consent form from your physician to participate. Papers can be obtained from the director. No classes in July and August.

Fit and Happy Exercises

We step it up a notch with the Fit and Happy class. This class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m. In this class you will be using floor mats and working on your core muscles and flexibility. No classes in July and August.

Contract Bridge

The Contract Bridge group meets on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. Call the Center for more information.

Cribbage

We hold cribbage double tournaments starting in the fall and going until May. We are always looking for more cribbage players and willing to teach people or just "refresh" your game if need be. Please contact the Center for more information.

Songsters

The Springfield Senior Center Songsters are a lively, group of singers who give by going out into the community to perform at Adult Day Centers, Nursing Homes and other senior centers in Vermont and New Hampshire. They practice September through June every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. If you enjoy singing this is the group for you. Everyone is welcome - you donot need to be a professional. You just need a love of singing!

Special Wed. Programs

On Wednesdays we hold special programs at 1 p.m. This could be Nickel Bingo, Senior Talent Show, a guest singing group, an author, a dance party and the list of possibilites goes on! Our monthly bulletins keep people informed of the upcoming Wednesday programs. Our bulletins are posted on our website or you can stop in and pick one up.

Matter of Balance
